Q | When was P.E.A.C.E. established?
P.E.A.C.E. was established January 2019 in British Columbia, Canada, and we received our Canadian charity status later that same year.
P.E.A.C.E. PROGRAMS
P.E.A.C.E. Resources was established in 2019.
P.E.A.C.E. Rescue started in British Columbia in 2019, and then expanded into Alberta. As of 2020 we work with sanctuaries in Western Canada.
The Billy Fund was established in 2019.
P.E.A.C.E. Humane was established in 2020.
P.E.A.C.E. Farm Sanctuary (Rooster Microsanctuary) was establish in 2022.
Q | Does P.E.A.C.E. have a sanctuary?
P.E.A.C.E. started out as a rescue group. We started to help BC farm sanctuaries and farmed animals as we saw a need for an organization dedicated to helping with rescue and transport of farmed animals.
Our short term goal of acquiring a property to more effectively run the charity’s programs became a reality the beginning of 2022.
On this property P.E.A.C.E. has only established a small rooster microsanctuary at this time, as our main focus is still P.E.A.C.E. Rescue. In the future we plan to attach a larger sanctuary to the property as part of our long term goals.
Q | What does P.E.A.C.E. mean when they state their vision is “a compassionate world for all sentient beings”?
Microsanctuary Resource Center explains it best in their core principles, which P.E.A.C.E. ascribes to:
“Microsanctuaries will strive to be spaces of collective liberation, where beings of all species (including humans) can be safe from violence, oppression, and exploitation: We support humans from all communities to become participants of this movement for non-humans and encourage microsanctuary caretakers to also learn about and actively support human social justice movements.”
Q | What does P.E.A.C.E. mean when they state their vision is “supported by the ethics of veganism”?
Ethical veganism is to promote a message of peaceful coexistence and non-exploitation of all non-human animals (ref AFSO), committed to rejecting any form of non-human exploitation, and advocating that others do the same (ref MRC).
Q | What does P.E.A.C.E. mean when they state their vision is “modeled by sustainable farm sanctuaries”?
Being sustainable can mean different things to different people, depending on their needs. P.E.A.C.E. is assisting through offering continued education and support to the public and already-established farm sanctuaries.
Running a sanctuary is a serious and generally life-long commitment. It is crucial to the longevity of a sanctuary for founders and sanctuary operators to be knowledgeable in and tend not only to rescue and farmed animal care, but to all aspects of running a sustainable non-profit organization.
P.E.A.C.E. is not here to assist in the running of farm sanctuaries; that is the responsibility of individual sanctuaries. P.E.A.C.E. provides support to sanctuaries through classes & workshops, resources, as well as rescue support.
Q | Does P.E.A.C.E. buy farmed animals?

Q | What is P.E.A.C.E.’s stance on horseback riding?
P.E.A.C.E. does not support horseback riding. We understand, in the vegan community there are different views on this. Education is key and we always reference the YouTube video Is Horse Riding Cruel? Is It Vegan? and The Open Sanctuary Project’s resource Animal Sanctuaries Should Be A Place Of Non-Exploitation.
Q | Does P.E.A.C.E. work with non-vegan sanctuaries and farmed animal rescues?
Yes. There are non-vegan rescues and sanctuaries, usually started as dog and cat rescues, who also offer homes to farmed animals. The core group of sanctuaries we work with are vegan, but there are always too many rescues needing homes, and not enough homes. Our main focus is working with organizations offering safe, no-kill forever homes for farmed animals.
Q | Does P.E.A.C.E. govern over sanctuaries?
P.E.A.C.E. is not a governing or regulatory body, and no such governing or regulatory body exists for farm sanctuaries. P.E.A.C.E. is a rescue and support organization that works with Canadian farm sanctuaries.
P.E.A.C.E. actively encourages Canadian sanctuaries to voluntarily undertake the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries Certification, which is the only farmed animal sanctuary accreditation program serving farmed animals worldwide.
